Housing Development Coordinator

The Housing Development Coordinator will predominately serve in Halifax County to assist Westside residents with transitional housing and home ownership opportunities. TheHousing Development Coordinator will advocate, support, and ensure residents have the proper resources to obtain housing sustainability and self-sufficiency.The Housing Coordinator will aid residents in developing safe and healthy community practices.

Education and Experience
  • BA/BS preferred in Social Services or another relevant field.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in providing services to low-income individuals.
  • Must possess the ability to collect, organize and report data
  • Knowledge of community resources administered by the county.
  • Knowledge of housing contracts/landlord negotiations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications strongly preferred.•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
  • Must be able to pass criminal and child protective services background checks.
  • Must have First Aid/CPR Training or willing to obtain within three months of hire.•Possess a valid driver’s license.
Job Requirements and Skills
  • Conduct intake interviews to assess skills, needs and resources of families.
  • Respond to referrals of new clients in timely manner, including completion of intake forms and assessments of the client’s needs and preferences.
  • Facilitate all aspects of the application process once the client becomes a qualified applicant.
  • This includes maintaining and administering the waitlist, showing the property to interested clients, and assisting clients who have been selected in submitting the necessary documents to qualify for the housing.
  • Identify Housing First options based on thorough analysis followed by assisting with application processes.
  • Assist clients in understanding and signing the lease agreement.•Provide relocation preparation for Westside Trailers.
  • Secure temporary housing for transitional residents.
  • Maintain current client data, keep detailed case notes, collect payments.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with the client, service providers, and support personnel to ensure that clients meet housing application requirements and maintain housing when secured.
  • Initiate community referrals for credit counseling/legal assistance, assembling letters of support, applying for eligible financial assistance, and utilizing third party funds for rental payment assistance.
  • Develop client budget sand plan for move-in expenses including the security deposit and first month’s rent. This may require applying for various programs that offer financial assistance for move-in expenses.
  • Be available to respond to questions from clients and authorized service providers/family members.
  • Effectively develop, document, and monitor individual training and service plans to identify realistic goals
  • Ability to conduct crisis assessment and make appropriate intervention and/or referral knowledge of local and agency resources
  • Monthly in-home case management and home maintenance inspections.
