Provides transportation for pre-school children enrolled in Halifax County/South Boston and Mecklenburg County Head Start Program utilizing mini buses. Maintains vehicle in good running condition including all safety equipment.
- Reports any and all maintenance problems to Supervisor and/or Head Start Director for corrective actions
- Must be willing to attend and participate in staff and parent meetings, as needed
- Provide limited custodian duties associated with the Head Start Center and assigned mini buses
- Must complete all forms used by the Head Start Program and submit to Supervisor in a timely manner
- Work toward meeting in-kind quota monthly
- Washes exterior and interior of bus as needed
- Complies with all local traffic regulations
- Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings when deemed necessary
- Must comply with all state licensing requirements, as well as federal and state regulations
- Responsible for storing bus at end of school year and for preparing bus at the beginning of the program year
- Completes daily pre-trip bus inspections
- Must complete bus post-trip inspections after every outing to ensue no child remains on the vehicle
- Must turn in gas receipt bi-weekly
- Keeps up with mileage log and turns in bi-weekly
- Maintains current emergency information on each child aboard the bus
- Notifies Supervisor, Head Start Director, and police/authorities of any accident immediately and completes and Accident Report Form
- Will assist as a Substitute in classrooms as needed
- Maintains functioning fire extinguisher and complete first aid kit on bus
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must have access to own vehicle and a valid Virginia Driver’s License
- Must have current CDL with PS endorsement and provide a copy of DMV driving history
- Must have a good driving record and no evidence of drug/alcohol abuse
- Must disclose moving traffic violations within the past five (5) years, during employment or assignment as driver
- Must demonstrate knowledge of proper bus procedures and mechanical operation of vehicles
- Must have good communication skills
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within three months of employment
- Musty have a physical exam completed within a year of employment and renewed every 2 years thereafter
- Must have a tuberculosis (TB) Screening within 12 months prior to employment or within twenty-one (21) days after employment
- Sit 50% of workday
- Stand 50% of workday
- Use computer, calculator and other office equipment
- Occasionally lift 25 pounds
